Annual General Meeting.

Later in the year, on 18 September we will be holding our A.G.M. As usual we will make it interesting. Last year we were treated to a very entertaining talk by Bob Acton on “Mines, Money and Mansions” and this year John Crowther will make an illustrated interactive PowerPoint presentation entitled “The Facades of Truro Main Streets over Forty Years”. Perhaps it is not too early for you to note that the A.G.M. is at 7.30 pm at Feock Church Hall. Refreshments will be provided.

Garden walks. Heather Ferris and Rosemary Bassett reported that between thirty and forty people visited the three gardens, producing a very enjoyable social occasion. Three gardens were visited: Old Farm (the Martin’s), Trewithick (the Skinner’s) and Tregarrick , (the Sharland’s).� Refreshments taken at Tregarrick provided an opportunity to donate to a local hospice and �50 was raised. Trevor Sharland has requested that his thanks be given to all those helpers who made the occasion a success.

Talk by Nicholas Johnson (Cornwall County Council’s Historic Environment Manager) on “The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape”, (popular name Cornish Mining).� Inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in July 2006, following the successful bid by Cornwall and West Devon.

The Garden Walk.

Porthgwidden (at the invitation of the various owners)

Carrick Cottage (owned by Roy and Jackie Fox)

Tregarrick (owned by Trevor and Susan Sharland)

Predeaux House (owned by Derek Reed and Rosemary Eames)

Broadwater (owned by Tom and Angela Rouncefield)

The five gardens were visited, followed by a Cornish cream tea provided by Heather Ferris and Rosemary Eames, at Predeaux House. Some 30 members and guests were present.

5 July 2007

Boat trip to Helford Passage. This was the third boat trip by the Friends but this time farther afield to Helford. The intention was to reach Gweek , with a voyage lasting four hours, beginning and ending at Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth. Unfortunately due to inclement weather the boat trip had to be cancelled at the last minute. Ninety participants had agreed to join the boat trip and Trevor Sharland should be thanked for the enormous amount of work that he had undertaken to organise the venture.
